Blepharitis, or granulated eyelids, is a chronic inflammation of the eyelids which can cause irritation, itching, crusting of the eyelashes, and occasionally a red eye. The condition may occur only once, but is often a recurring problem.
Meibomitis is a deeper form of inflammation, which extends into the glands at the base of the eyelashes. It is associated with more extensive eyelid involvement and is even more irritating to the eye itself. Discuss your symptoms with one of our physicians for a treatment regimen. Your eyes will feel better if you treat them as directed, probably settling into a daily or every-other day regimen, after the initial treatment is successful. Blepharitis is a chronic problem, and may return if you slip from routine long-term care.
