Each patient goes through a comprehensive series of eye tests, computerized eye modeling, and examinations before consulting with Dr. Gilbert to discuss and plan the Laser Vision correction best for you. Prior to the day of your surgery, you will need to make the following arrangements: Contact Lenses -- If you wear contact lenses you will be asked to leave them out from the time of your initial exam until your surgery. More specific arrangements may be made individually.
Makeup -- Please discontinue the use of eye makeup two days prior to surgery.
Driver -- Arrange for a driver on the day of surgery and plan to be there about 1-2 hours.
For the Laser experience itself, you will sit in a supportive contoured chair that is reclined to a horizontal position. The eye is anesthetized with topical drops only, no injections are used. These drops ensure a painless Laser experience. The eyelids are gently held open with a specially designed support, or speculum. You will watch a flashing light while the laser precisely vaporizes microscopic layers of tissue to correct the focus. Actual laser surgery time lasts only seconds, 10 to 90 seconds in most cases, although patients are in the surgery suite for about 15 minutes. Once the Laser treatment is complete you will return to the Laser Center lounge to receive your post-op kit with drops and have a chance to ask additional questions.
A follow up visit to our office will be scheduled for the evening of your surgery, or for the following day. At any time you may reach Dr. Gilbert for questions.
