Dr. Gilbert is a nationally recognized, board-certified leader in the ophthalmic community. He is a trustee of the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, as well as a leader on medical, ophthalmic and quality improvement committees at both state and national level. He is committed to advancing technology and patient education to unique levels. A noted instructor of refractive surgical techniques, he has represented our specialty on numerous occasions to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the World Health Organization, the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and Eyecare Technology. He has performed thousands of laser-eye surgeries over the past decade for LASIK and PRK, as well as cataracts, corneal transplants and other advanced refractive surgical care.
After completing her training at the New England College of Optometry, Stephanie Kitamura OD joined us in 2001 to support our practice in the rapidly growing and increasingly complex field of contact lens design and fitting.
Over the years she has developed a strong practice of devoted, successful contact lens patients that have come to appreciate her attention to detail and determination to help he patients achieve the highest possible refraction while negotiating the often complex world of technological choices relating to contact lenses. Dr. Kitamura maintains a fully stocked inventory of the latest and most technologically advanced lenses available in the industry today.
Her practice has expanded to include full service, comprehensive vision examinations, medical management and co-management and postoperative follow up care for our refractive surgery patients. Our keratoconus patients benefit from both her vast experience and state of the art diagnostic equipment available at Northwest Vision Institute to help achieve the successes we are so well known for. She is a highly valued member of our professional team and we welcome the opportunity to have you meet her.
Dr. Wickenburg graduated with honors from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. She completed externships with the Indian Health Service and the Puget Sound VA Medical Center, where she first fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. She continued her training with a residency in ocular disease and primary care at the San Francisco VA hospital. Before joining our team, Dr. Wickenburg worked in private practice and served as clinical faculty for the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. She takes a personable and individualized approach so that her patients are receiving the best vision and eye care for their unique lifestyles.
In her spare time, Dr. Wickenburg can be found cooking up new recipes or hiking the trails with her pup.
Kristen Chippi, OD
Kristy grew up in northern Michigan in the small town of Harbor Springs. She attended the University of Michigan for her undergraduate degree before eventually moving to Houston, Texas where she attended the University of Houston School of Optometry. After recently becoming engaged, she now joins us in Seattle, Washington. Kristy loves the outdoors and enjoys activities such as kayaking, hiking and swimming, as well as playing tennis and photography.
Emily McHugh, ARNP
Emily McHugh is a board certified Adult/Gerontological Advance Registered Nurse practitioner with a focus in primary care, geriatric specialty care and palliative care. A graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy (1997) with a degree in Business, Emily spent over 20 years as an Officer in the United States Coast Guard. She graduated from Seattle University (2016) with a Master of Science in Nursing and joined Northwest Vision in 2017.
Emily’s philosophy in caring for patients is to work closely with each patient to develop goals for care and how to best achieve them. Emily’s focus is managing chronic conditions and helping patients to live their best possible quality of life throughout their lifespan.
Emily takes time to get to know the whole patient and works to understand each part of their life and what is important to them to better serve their needs. Emily believes in attainable lifestyle changes before pharmacology recognizing that there are many options for providing treatment. Emily enjoys educating patients and providing information so that they can make the best decisions possible to advocate for their health needs.
Emily grew up in Fargo, ND and has had the opportunity to live on each coast of the United States while proudly serving in the military. Emily enjoys educating patient about their bodies through yoga, personal training, and outdoor activities. Emily spends much of her time traveling with and to visit family, climbing mountains, skiing, running, surfing, and enjoying the outdoors with her husband, step children, friends, and puppy.
