Northwest Vision Institute is excited to offer our patients BlephEx for the treatment of dry eye, blepharitis, and demodex infestation. BlephEx is a noninvasive, in-office procedure that deep cleans eyelashes and eye lid margins. Dead skin cells, lash mites (Demodex), and bacterial toxins are exfoliated away in order to reduce eyelid inflammation and reduce risk for progressive dry eye disease.
How to prepare for for your BlephEx treatment:
-Please refrain from wearing eye makeup to your exam. Any eye makeup will be washed away during BlephEx.
-You can wear contact lenses to your appointment, however your contacts will be removed during the procedure.
You will be able to insert your contacts again afterwards, however some patients may feel more comfortable wearing their glasses.
-Your vision will not be impacted by BlephEx and you will be able to drive yourself.
-BlephEx can be repeated every 6-12 months as recommended by your doctor to keep your lids refreshed and clean.
What are Demodex?
Demodex are small mites that live on our skin. Demodex are very common, but sometimes cause a condition called blepharitis.
Symptoms of Demodex include:
Redness and swelling of the lids
Foreign body sensation or grittiness in the eyes
If you have been diagnosed with a demodex infestation your provider may recommend a product with tea tree oil in it to for its anti-microbial properties.
